APEX PHYSIO & WELLNESS

Registered Massage Therapy

Regulated therapeutic massage that addresses the physical and neurological roots of pain, tension, and stress. Far more than relaxation — this is clinical bodywork.

WHAT IS RMT?

Therapeutic Massage. Clinical Results.

Registered Massage Therapy in Ontario is a regulated health profession governed by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). RMTs complete a rigorous educational program and must pass national board examinations before practicing. This means your RMT at Apex is a clinician — not just a trained massage technician — and their treatment plans are built on a thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

Therapeutic massage and relaxation massage share some techniques, but they serve very different purposes. James Park's approach is grounded in soft tissue therapy: identifying areas of dysfunction — adhesions, trigger points, hypertonic muscle groups, restricted fascia — and systematically addressing them using a combination of Swedish techniques, deep tissue work, myofascial release, and neuromuscular therapy. The result is not just muscular relaxation but measurable changes in tissue quality, circulation, and nervous system regulation.

The nervous system is deeply involved in chronic muscular tension. When the body experiences sustained stress — physical or psychological — the nervous system responds by maintaining elevated muscle tone, reducing pain threshold, and altering movement patterns. Massage therapy interrupts this cycle by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing cortisol, and resetting the default resting tone of chronically overactive muscles. Patients frequently report not just physical relief but improved sleep, reduced anxiety, and better overall resilience after a course of RMT treatment.

James works with patients ranging from office workers with desk-related postural strain to competitive athletes managing overuse injuries. He takes time before every session to understand how your body has been feeling, and adjusts his technique and pressure throughout the treatment based on your feedback. Collaborative, communicative bodywork produces the best results — and James's patients consistently describe his sessions as both deeply effective and comfortable.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your First RMT Visit.

A good massage therapy session starts with a real conversation. James takes time to understand your concerns before the treatment begins.

1

Health Intake & Comfort Preferences

James begins every first visit with a thorough health intake covering your current concerns, medical history, medications, and any areas of sensitivity or injury. He'll discuss your goals — whether that's pain relief, recovery, stress management, or a combination — and talk through your preferences for pressure, focus areas, and draping comfort. Your comfort and consent are central to every session.

2

Targeted Therapeutic Treatment

The treatment itself is adapted in real time. James checks in throughout the session to ensure pressure and technique are working well for you. For new patients, he typically works through a whole-body assessment of tissue quality before focusing on the areas of greatest concern. Techniques may include Swedish massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue work, and lymphatic techniques depending on your presentation.

3

Post-Treatment Care Advice

After your session, James will share specific home care recommendations — stretches, hydrotherapy suggestions, posture adjustments, or self-massage techniques — tailored to your condition. He'll also outline a suggested frequency of treatment and explain what you might experience in the 24–48 hours following your session, including why some mild soreness after deep tissue work is normal and productive.
